BSH Home Appliances, the largest manufacturer of home appliances in Europe and one of the leading companies in this industry worldwide, is using ALCOM® LB Light Blocking for the housing of the user interface of its fully automatic bean-to-cup coffee machine series BOSCH Verocup. The PCB housing has integrated LED reflectors, featuring a homogeneous illumination of the “One Touch Function” display, which allows the user to select coffee specialties such as espresso, cappuccino and latte macchiato at the touch of a button. There´s no need to manoeuver through a complicated menu in order to get you your most preferred beverage.
BSH has selected ALCOM® AWL 109/15 WT1217-11LB because of its diffuse reflectivity of 92%, ensuring an homogenous illumination of the touch symbols, and because of it´s low light transmission of 0.4% at 0.5 mm wall thickness. This prevents light bleeding into adjacent areas, where no illumination is needed.
This amorphous, PC modified ABS grade with improved temperature resistance is UL 94 HB listed, provides ease of processing and has very good dimensional stability. In addition it ensures excellent adhesion of the 2 K molded TPE gasket in order to protect the electronics from any humidity.
ALCOM® LB Light Blocking is used in many other user-interface applications such as washing machines and dishwashers to improve the quality of illumination and give a high quality appearance to the consumer. For more thermally demanding applications, such as oven control panels, grades based on PC, PBT and PA are available.
